About Hidden Harbour Motor Yacht Squadron

Hidden Who?
Port Phillip Bay and areas around it remained "hidden" for 14 years after Australia was first settled in 1788. Neighbouring Westernport was discovered in 1789 but various explorers sailed past the narrow entrance to Port Phillip Bay in those early years without suspecting what lay beyond.

It wasn't until 1802 that lieutenant John Murray, sailing westward past Cape Schank in the brig Lady Nelson saw what appeared to be the opening to a harbour which he described as a turbulent gateway. The mate William Bowen was sent through the heads by launch and returned with the news of  "a most notable sheet of water longer even than Westernport with many covers and entrances in it and the appearance and probability of rivers."

Hence the name Hidden Harbour Motor Yacht Squadron, synonymous with Port Phillip Bay. Founded in 1982 and with members right around Port Phillip Bay many of our members venture much further afield to destinations that include Refuge Bay, the Gippland Lakes, Tasmania and to NSW and Queensland

Our Mission
To organise and provide boating and social activities that maximise the safety and enjoyment of members' use of their boats and to provide opportunities for members to meet others with similar interests in a friendly and enjoyable atmosphere.

Regular events and cruises
The club organises regular events and social cruises throughout the year and members can cruise in the relative safety and company of other boats and visit interesting and different locations around Port Phillip Bay and beyond.

Social / Education functions and events
The club has regular social and educational days and evenings where members and their families get together in a relaxed atmosphere, have fun, learn more about boating and swap boating yarns.

No Clubrooms, low fees
Hidden Harbour Motor Yacht Squadron has no clubrooms, is not affiliated with any particular brand of boat or any other organisation. We are essentially a social cruising club. Most of our members belong to other yacht clubs around the bay and we enjoy good relations with all of the yacht clubs and marinas around Port Phillip and Westernport.

Current Fees
Our current fee structure is set at a modest $125  annum which covers the whole family. If you would like to receive information about joining please click here
