    <title>HHMYS supports Variety, the Children’s Charity</title>
    <description>Following on from their support last year, Hidden Harbour Motor Yacht Squadron has again made a donation of $2,500 to Variety, the Children&amp;rsquo;s Charity.

The contribution was made in the form of a part Sponsorship of &amp;ldquo;Blue Tango&amp;rdquo; a Riviera 40, Flybridge Cruiser owned by HHMYS members John and Fiona Zammit who will take part in the upcoming Variety Splash, 25 to 27 February.

The Variety Splash, a three day and two night boating rally on Port Phillip Bay, open to power and sail boats, commences at Waterfront City Docklands with the first leg taking Splasher's to Sandringham Yacht Club for an overnight stop.

The following morning Splasher&amp;rsquo;s travel across the bay to Royal Geelong Yacht Club for a night of fun and entertainment.&amp;nbsp;

On the final morning, after a lazy breakfast the fleet heads back to Waterfront City, Docklands for an evening of fun, presentations and music.

As with all Variety events, the Splash has a serious side. Its primary objective is to raise money for children in our community with a wide range of special needs. Monies raised goes towards Sunshine Coaches (minibuses) for children&amp;rsquo;s organisations, Liberty Wheelchair Swings for council playgrounds, specialist communication devices such as Dynavox machines and mobility equipment like wheelchairs and Second Skin Splints.

According to HHMYS Commodore Con Zisos, &amp;ldquo;We are pleased to be able to support such a worthwhile charity, while at the same time supporting a boating event and members who are prepared to go out and value add to our donation by raising additional funds for Charity (the minimum entry fee for the Variety Splash is $6,000 per boat plus catering). All entry fees are paid direct to Variety.

In addition to the entry fee, participants must pay all of their own expenses during the event including fuel and an amount of $495 per person on board, to cover catering and entertainment.

Last year the Variety Splash attracted 22 boats and raised more than $150,000.

    <title>2009 Variety Splash a huge success  </title>
    <description>Hailed a huge success by participants for its &amp;lsquo;fun factor&amp;rsquo; alone, the 2009 Variety Splash raised over $150,000 to help improve the lives of children with special needs.

Hidden Harbour Motor Yacht Squadron was well represented among the fleet, partly sponsoring members John and Fiona Zammit aboard Blue Tango and Vic Fenech aboard Horizon. Other HHMYS members taking part included Sunny and Andrew Broadway aboard Uelya (as part of Team Clairabella)

Around 200 people onboard a fleet of 24 power and sail boats &amp;ndash; among them, Sydney to Hobart maxi yacht Skandia Wild Thing &amp;ndash; last week travelled a three-day course from Docklands to Mornington, across the bay to Geelong and back up the coast to Waterfront City &amp;ndash; with plenty of fun along the way!

Variety Victoria CEO Norm Hutton said he was pleased the event had grown from last year&amp;rsquo;s inaugural event, which raised around $130,000.

&amp;ldquo;While the economic climate has changed significantly from 12 months ago, it&amp;rsquo;s fantastic to see the community is still willing to dig deep to raise money for those less fortunate,&amp;rdquo; Mr Hutton said.

&amp;ldquo;A percentage of the money raised during the 2009 Variety Splash will be added to the tally of more than $150,000 already raised over the past two weeks to help provide essential equipment and services to schools and communities devastated by the bushfires.&amp;rdquo;

Top fundraisers in the 2009 Variety Splash were Team Clairabella and Team Anchorage.

&amp;ldquo;Whether you raise $10 or $10,000, the fact is you&amp;rsquo;re pitching in to help &amp;ndash; and every cent is appreciated,&amp;rdquo; Mr Hutton said. &amp;ldquo;We thank all our sponsors and supporters of the 2009 Variety Splash and look forward to the 2010 event.&amp;rdquo;
